Hi.

For my 35th birthday I received three different kinds of salt and two copies of Women Who Run With the Wolves. I have no idea what this means, but I do like the symbolism, the archetype of salt. Salt is about bitterness and wisdom, the duality of experience creating strength. Salt Woman is about honoring our instincts, trusting ones intuition and gathering the skills to care for ones self and family, without the commercial nonsense that clouds our vision.

Purchasing herbs

I remember making my first big order from Mountain Rose Herbs, I filled my shopping cart with plants that I knew and others that I had just heard of. I was surprised when a giant box arrived at my door a couple of weeks later containing about 15 lbs worth of herbs, I went a little bananas! One thing I didn't realize, duh, is that the lighter the plant, the more volume in each pound. So for example, a pound of burdock root seemed like hardly enough to get me through the month of making a daily infusion (I use 2 cups of herbs per 1/2 gallon of water, so say 1/2 cup of burdock root, 1/2 cup of oatstraw and 1 cup of rosehips), where as a pound of calendula will last me for a year. Keep this in mind when making your orders. It is nice to go to an actual herb shop like Flower Power in the East Village or the Herb Shoppe in Bourem Hill when making your beginning purchases, this will let you see, smell and taste what you are buying while keeping in mind the quantities that are right for your needs.

My teacher, Robin Rose Bennett has a great resource list for purchasing herbs and other essentials on her website, http://wisewomanhealingways.com/resources/

I hope you spend some time checking out the rest of her site, while you are over there!
